This past weekend my family and I went on
Snofari 2012. Basically, 60 off-road vehicles playing on the back roads and trails around West Branch, Michigan. It was a lot of fun for everybody both on the trails and at the hotel. Here are a few random thoughts from my long weekend away:
- It isn't always great to have a writer's over-active imagination. Especially when you are in the woods at 11 PM and have to go to the bathroom. More on that little philosophical gem in a future Inspiration post.
- Rum is good. Apparently I can drink a goodly amount of this fine spirit, along with one beer, and not get a hangover the next day. This was my second test of this theory. Will need to do more research in the future to see if the beer is a crucial component.
- I should get a t-shirt to wear next year emblazoned with something like "Be Careful, You'll End Up In One of My Stories". Let's just say someone's fictional alter-ego will not come to a happy ending.
- Buy raffle tickets as late as possible, close to when the drawings begin. My husband and I were visited quite a few times by the prize fairy. Sorry to say our early ticket-buying table mates won nothing.
Sounds like an absolutely grand time! Paul (my other half) is always asking when we run across a strange individual - "Character for your books?" I think I NEED that shirt, "Be Careful, You'll End Up In One of My Stories". (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should start a side business, shirts for writers. :)
DeleteLooks like fun Janel!
ReplyDeleteIt was! Maybe you can come and visit us next year!
DeleteSounds like you had fun! Congratulations on winning the prizes!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was fun!
DeleteYou crack me up!! I totally want to be part of your experiment with rum and a beer. Pick me, pick me! Buying lottery tickets today as Powerball is up to $175 million dollars. Then I can visit you...I'll bring rum :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sending some luck your way for the Powerball! And you know you are welcome to visit anytime, with or without rum. :)
DeleteSounds like you had a great time away, and got lots of writing inspiration in the process. A writer's work is never done, is it?
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of fun and my brain was busy storing all kinds of bits and pieces to use in the future.
DeleteI can't wait to hear more about your over active writer's imagination and needed to go to the bathroom at 11pm in the woods. Sounds like a story!
ReplyDeleteI'll post all of the details later this week. :)
DeleteThanks for the advice about the raffle tickets. Sounds like you had a great time and it was great fodder for your writing.
ReplyDeleteThe advice about the raffle tickets came from my father-in-law's friend and it certainly seemed to work this weekend! Apparently the tickets are more apt to stay on top, even when the "pot" is stirred. We actually won 5 things in that raffle!
DeleteSounds like a great time, Janel, glad you've enjoyed it! I like the "small" cars ;-)
ReplyDeleteMost of vehicles actually have a small wheel base, meaning they aren't very long. However our Jeep has stirrups that we use to get in because the floor board is higher than my waist.
DeleteLots of fun and lots of inspiration? Sounds like the perfect weekend. Glad you had a good adventure.
ReplyDeleteThere were some parts, like cocktail hour, that were more fun than others, LOL!
DeleteI love how you were able to get so much out of this weekend!! The bathroom late at night would be very unsettling indeed. I think you need to test your beer/rum theory at least a few more times with different ratios!! :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can meet up this summer to test the theory!
